Guidry, Strawberry, Nettles to highlight “Party with the Pros”

The memory of three classmates along with the opportunity to give back to the community drives the KRW Foundation.

Combine those with bringing former Major League Baseball players to town, and the foundation’s biggest night of the year continues to be more and more successful.

The fifth annual “Party with the Pros” returns

April 23 from 6-9 p.m. at the Mohegan Sun Club at PNC Field with former New York Yankees and World Series champions Ron Guidry, Graig Nettles and Darryl Strawberry scheduled to be on hand to sign autographs and interact with fans.

Proceeds will benefit Dunmore, East Scranton, Green Ridge and West Scranton Little Leagues. The KRW Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded in memory of 1998 Dunmore High School graduates Jeremy Kelleher, Joseph Ralicke and Michael Wilding.

“There’s real avid baseball fans in this area that get excited to meet these legends and come out for a great night and a great cause,” said Ryan Alpert, who is the foundation’s president and co-founder along with Tom Kelly. “We’ve been really able to give back to tons of local causes that I think are really near and dear to our hearts.”

Along with getting autographs, those in attendance will have the opportunity to bid on sports memorabilia and gift baskets and witness the Center Stage Experience, where the guests of honor recall stories and memories from their playing days.

Nicknamed “Louisiana Lighting” and “Gator,” Guidry pitched his entire 14-year career with the Yankees, winning two World Series (1977, ’78). He won the 1978 American League Cy Young Award and was a four-time all-star. He served as the Yankees’ pitching coach for the 2006-07 seasons.

Nettles was also part of the ’77 and ’78 World Series-winning teams. The third baseman played 22 seasons with six teams, was a six-time all-star and two-time Gold Glove Award winner.

Strawberry was an eight-time all-star in his 17-year career and won four World Series, including three with the Yankees. He also hit 335 home runs.

“A lot of people know Strawberry and as far as legend status, Guidry and Nettles were as good as it gets for the Yankees,” Alpert said. “Just to hear some of their stories and to hear them speak about some of those big wins that they were part of, people really get geared up for it and I think that’s what makes it such an exciting night.”
